Simply put, the Optimism network is a layer two solution in Ethereum that was created with the aim of solving scalability problems. This network collects transactions and then sends them to the Ethereum network in a compressed form. Because it benefits from the security of the Ethereum mainnet, transactions are carried out on the Optimism network, but are secured by the Ethereum network.
