Isn't that how it works in the Survivor show anyway? Players are given money by the host for auctions, they don't withdraw from their own savings or whatever

That's a good point. Even testnet eth can have a real monetary value when in high demand.

I've given this some more thought and still think this would make for an interesting dynamic.

Yes the new token would instantly have some real value. Would players try to buy it out from other teams? Would some take the free money and sell out to another tribe, putting themselves at risk from being voted out?

Not sure that works because, assuming the token is transferrable, it ends up being the same game.  Money buys the token.   

We are back to the same situation.  more fun maybe, but still same.

Exactly. At the least they should have done the auction with testnet eth. Laid clues running up to the season that testnet sepolia will come in handy at some point. And then after the auction is over, airdrop mainnet NFT to the winning bids.

Maybe we can get together some thinkers and design what the "auction game" could/should look like?!  To make it work, it get's quite complex fast.
