The graphite treated surface ends up almost looking like a daguerreotype (hard to see in photographs but more apparent irl).

The graphite sticks to the inkjet dots (and sticks less where there are fewer dots). This process has an odd effect of replacing the color, so parts of the image look black&white but the original image is full color. I left the bottom section without graphite so the color can come through.

Tree, 2013 — this work was part of a series of experiments with graphite treated inkjets. I made the print and then immediately poured powdered graphite onto the surface, while rubbing it into the print with my hands until I achieved a silvery burnished finish.
