Why wouldn’t modern social media (web2) follow the same pattern as prior social media eras, where the old versions are entirely replaced? What makes this cycle different than the past ones?

Feel like the history of social media is so short there are no patterns to work off. Twitter is far bigger and more established than any previously shut down social platform to expect it to go the same way. Plus huge budgets at hand to fix potential problems.
