I only ever find that in state referendums and local politics. I’m gen-x and I have never had a national political candidate that I loved. I’ve always chosen what I felt was the best of all the crappy options.

You’re underestimating how motivating anger and fear are when choosing to vote against. I’m voting and donating against and for very, very personal reasons.

Some here quote France last elections as an example of people raising against fascism. It was, in my opinion, the result of our 2 rounds vote system: - 1st round you vote for, we often have a dozen candidates (sometimes more) - 2nd round, most of the time, you vote against one candidate
