It's wild how snappy/smooth the Farcaster experience is even during this explosive growth phase vs Friend Tech laggy/slow experience. Makes me wonder...how tf is Friend Tech still laggy when Farcaster now has more daily active users? 🤔

I think FriendTech is way more onchain and struggles to keep up with all the indexing. Farcaster is sufficiently onchain and most of the user activity is distributed over a growing number of web servers known as hubs.

Interesting take. I actually think Farcaster is WAY more onchain (although sufficiently is a better description) based on how much of the data here you can pull on a Dune query. With only a couple thousand DAU it's bizarre FriendTech is still slow. Just as slow as peak use tbh

I think pairing an FID (on Optimism) to existing Ethereum addresses is where a lot of rich data comes from. But core user activity happens offchain around casting/likes/hubs. Most of FT (from what I remember when I last used it) has to account for a ton of blockchain transactions which doesn’t scale well, it seems.

maybe you're right just figured that now with 90%+ fewer transactions/users over there now it would be faster but it's the same or worse lol
