The secret project @marka and I are working on will be on @base. It nods to some of our favorite projects and contracts in one way or another – Punks, Terraforms, Art Blocks, Checks, Opepen, Nouns, and more. We're doing a lot but packaging it up in a very user-friendly way that I think you'll have a lot of fun with.

With gwei at frequent lows, I wonder why use an L2 over mainnet?

imo less about where gas is now and more about costs over life of the project

If costs over life of project means lots of transactions, an L2 makes total sense to me. But what if it's just a standard ERC721 smart contract?

was thinking more about cost to users to transfer/etc but yeah doubly agree if there's maintenance/modular stuff etc. gas just functions as project friction & height of barrier to entry (vs perceived L2 risk which seems low) probably not doing much on L1 myself except for functional network effects or on principle

i’m a mainnet purist too but our plans here are complete opposite to 99% of projects where it’s just a mint and that’s it we aspire for a copious amount of engagement over a long time horizon so L2 makes sense for the project imho - who knows what L1 gas costs will be in 3, 6, 12 months @backseats - possibly a “commit to L1” feature one day though, once you’ve got your forever XXXX
