I originally wrote this article not with DAOs in mind… but revisiting what I’m learning. It’s not just tech problems. It’s human design problems. DAOs aren’t designed like living systems. They’re designed like frozen systems. - They forget that governance is a story, not a structure. - They fix leadership instead of letting it emerge. - They undervalue relationships as assets; they only track tokens. - They hide power instead of making it visible and accountable. - They treat governance like a one-off launch, not a living prototype that evolves. What if we thought about DAOs more like sustainable communities? Governance wouldn’t be a smart contract. It would be a golden thread; trust, emergence, accountability, iteration. The future isn’t ‘decentralised’. It’s alive.
