I’m trying to write more, so challenging myself to writing one 250 word minimum post a day for 30 days. Here’s the first one: You're getting paid to become better *So why wouldn't you try?*

A mindset shift occurred for me recently. My company is paying me to become a better software engineer. A skill that (at least for now 🤖😬) is one of the highest leverage in the world. Not only are they paying me to improve, they're also paying other people to help me improve. My coworkers are being paid to answer my questions, give me advice, review my code, all in addition to their other day-to-day responsibilities. The company itself gets a lot out of this process. I will likely provide increasing value at a rate that outpaces my compensation. That's the positive-sum game we play. They are increasing my potential future earnings as I skill up, even increasing the likelihood that any startup I may start would be successful. Juxtapose this with a mindset I had when I was younger. That you should get as much done as you can, in as little time as possible, and then use the extra time you save however you see fit.

While good for maximizing your own leisure time, this doesn't help your abilities compound. Eventually you might save enough money to move to Taiwan and semi-retire, but that kind of freedom isn't as free as it sounds. The more effort I put in, the more my skills improve. The more I push myself out of my comfort zone to ask people questions or get input, the better I'll become. Improving *feels* good, you'd be crazy not to try!
