❄️Winter holidays for me are about traditions and family values! From early childhood, my family created a New Year's miracle for me, carefully preparing for the holidays! Christmas has always been something special, because we began the preparation for it in advance. The traditional dish is kutya and now it can be bought in any supermarket and all you need is to boil it, and earlier in the eastern part of Ukraine most people cooked it from rice, so my grandmother after moving there, was, as it is fashionable to say now, the ambassador of real Christmas traditions, she carefully selected wheat grains, pounded them, washed, dried and sifted them so that on the holiday we could put on the table a real Ukrainian dish! Unfortunately, my grandmother passed away 12 years ago, but this spirit of family customs, celebration and warmth remains! Every year, and this one is no exception, I cook this traditional dish adding a sweet syrup, a lot of raisins and poppy seeds, keeping memories and traditions alive!

What a beautiful and heartfelt tradition! It’s amazing how you’ve managed to keep the spirit of your grandmother alive through this special dish and your family customs. The way you described the process and effort she put into making kutya truly shows how much love and care went into it. It’s inspiring to see how you’ve carried this forward, adding your own touch while preserving the essence of it. Traditions like these are what make the holidays so meaningful. Thank you for sharing this beautiful story—it’s a reminder of how food and family bring us closer, even across generations.
