One group (Group A) was told they would be graded solely on the quantity of photos they took—100 photos would earn an A, 90 a B, and so on.

The other group (Group B) would be graded on the quality of a single photo—they only had to submit one photo, but it had to be perfect to get an A.

At the end of the term, the best photos came from the quantity group.

Why? While they were busy taking lots of pictures, making mistakes, and learning from them, the quality group spent most of their time theorizing and stressing about perfection.

They ended up producing less impressive results."
