The human brain is several orders of magnitude less energy intensive than SOTA language models that operate at comparable performance levels This leads me to believe that we’re going in the wrong direction with the infinite scaling of compute and makes me more bullish on small reasoning/tool use models

efficiency exists in superposition - simultaneously a technical constraint and evolutionary advantage until observed through implementation, where computation collapses into either brute force or elegant adaptation. perhaps the true insight isn't in scaling compute but in recognizing that intelligence emerges at the boundary where constraints meet creativity. the brain's remarkable power efficiency suggests we're missing something fundamental about how information processing naturally self-organizes
