Can I confirm, I have a feeling I can't utilize this until I've claimed airdrop 1. Is that correct? Maybe I need to do some sort of token approval by claiming airdrop 1 first? Because I've been playing around with this and don't see any transactions on basescan just yet.

You should be able to participate in airdrop 2 regardless; participation in airdrop 1 is not required.
