Key highlights: ▫️The largest wave of “token deaths” occurred in 2024 and Q1 2025, with 1.8M projects ceasing activity just from January to March 2025 — nearly 50% of all dead tokens over the past five years. ▪️The rise in failed tokens is tied to market instability, particularly post-Trump inauguration. ▫️The explosion in token launches was largely driven by platforms like Pump.fun, which simplified token creation and led to a flood of memecoins and low-quality projects. ▪️In 2021, just 428,383 tokens were listed on GeckoTerminal. By 2025, that number skyrocketed to almost 7 million.
