Layer 2's don't just scale Ethereum blockspace - they also scale the use of ETH as programmable money and as a store of value. Scaling the network effect of ETH as an asset is critical to driving value to ETH and it is a much more important value driver than anything else.

I also think that what's missing in the arguments is that we are scaling towards millions of transactions per second. This must happen on a layered tech. So L2s are a must

The analogy that personally fits best for me is that of being the currency of the largest space/jurisdiction of the digital economy. From this perspective, it's important, of course, that this activity gradually develops with ETH as the unit of account, that all activity taking place can further enhance the development of collective infrastructure, and that this currency offers competitive returns (staking).
