Yesterday, I proposed splitting the "External cast data" FIP into two items. 1. Longer Casts, for medium size posts (1k char casts) 2. External cast data, for true long form content (10k+ char posts) The Longer Casts FIP is ready for review. It's a simple change and we plan to move quickly if there is consensus.

++ to supporting longer casts natively! Curious why the FIP landed on 1024 chars specifically (which seems to not be a large increase from the default) versus 2048 or 4096?

Balance between expressibility and storage impact. If 1024 is abused we might need a separate, much lower limit for long casts vs normal casts.

Interesting. If it turns out that a lower limit is required for long casts would the length be up for discussion again?
