iMessage replies is the only Chat app where one can properly have multiple topics in the same conversation / chat without the UI sucking.

discord/slack only if managed well. they can get too much in terms of overall "organisation because of it"

i think discord/slack threads are pretty good

but for casual messaging a la twitter dms, tg, warpcast, etc. -- imessage clears
