There's a great word in German: Lehrgeld. "Money lost learning a lesson."

yes! we germans use that a lot. Even when making bets as person/company into something that might work, but might not we say "if it doesn't work its Lehrgeld and we move on". Awesome to write off some money as "yep learned something" all good
