It's taken me a long time to accept that no matter what good you do in life for someone, no matter what sacrifices you make, it is in human nature that a majority of people will thank you initially, but will forget you eventually. I have had great trouble in accepting this. Good deeds are like a sand castles on the beach. What might have been there in all its glory, is eventually consumed by the tides of time, and whatever emotion that was attached to it, are washed away, replaced, as if they never existed. Just be at peace with yourself, that for whatever good deed you have done, that it was done with the intent to better one’s life, and that in itself should be enough. Any expectation of gratitude or recognition as a means of finding self-worth or purpose, is tedious and ultimately futile. You will soon be disappointed in yourself, but also the ones you wished to aid in good faith. And that in itself is a tragedy. The real ones will remember you, but you and only you know what your true worth is.

My husband has helped his relatives and family through so many legal problems, saving them thousands of dollars and time too; years and years of time. Recently he saved his aunt from a property scam and helped her recover 100k $ that would have otherwise been lost. All of them have outcasted him and when we needed help the most they don’t even greet us properly. I’ve learned not to expect anything in return and I’ve told my husband to keep his services to himself. They can go pay lawyers to solve their shit 🙄 there is a big difference between being kind and nice. I wish we knew that back then before we burnt our life to the ground 💔 by wasting our energies.
