I’m curious: Did people in the 80’s and 90’s view Bill Gates similarly to how we view Mark Zuckerberg today?

Gates was widely admired for his genius and feared as a competitor. He was a great futurist and got the power of the internet before many — although many of Microsoft’s early forays online were busts and he famously predicted that mobile apps would be a short... longcast.jam.so/jjgloT

Evil. My understanding is Gates was largely hated and distrusted, especially around the US vs. Microsoft Corp case in 2001. 

I’m asking because I think people write off Zuck as the creepy steal your data guy and clowning him for Meta spend. But they’re ignoring how great of a CEO he is + how much time he has.
