I'm starting to dig into sports x web3 as a potential investing thesis. Rationale: (1) Dapper + Sorare two of the most successful web3 projects (2) legalization of NIL and gambling create new market forces that web3 may creatively solve (3) team ownership a real use case for DAOs with interesting ripple effects

As someone who’s spent years in the sports space, many have tried so far & none have succeeded in a sustainable way yet, imo. - Huge opportunities with many traps. The big players are coming, quickly and decisively (Amazon, Fanatics, et al), so best act fast.

Do you think SoRare is unsustainable?

I need to look into it more. Concept seems promising, but I’m curious if cards are basis* (1/2) - The licensing is a huge get, although that’s no guarantee of success. For example, I think TopShot won’t last & would be toast already w/o the exclusive NBA investment/partnership.

* … because the cards themselves may become taxable like irl sports cards. I know there are projects working on a similar concept where you wager physical assets on game results or simply buy “shares” of a player or physical asset. Not sure which is best. (2/2)

From what I've seen, SoRare seems sustainable. That's because the underlying game is really good and skill-based. The retention numbers are off the charts. Agreed on TopShot.
