Suffice it to say IMO it’s likelier that assuming consciousness in AI will lead to more mistakes (and more harm) than not.

I'm down for defaulting to treating AI like it's conscious.

No. It is "self aware", but lacks the ability to make "conscious" decisions. It still lives within its own programming. 

Now once these AI are allowed roam and write their own programming based on internal/external factors, THEN we can start really debating this topic.
