Remember the myth of 10,000 steps every day? It grew out of the advertising campaign of the first Manpo-kei pedometer. In 1965, marketers came up with a memorable advertising slogan for the device: "If you want to live to 100, take 10,000 steps a day." The name uses the hieroglyph δΈ β this is the number 10,000 (read as "person"). Later, the trick was used by competitors, and the number firmly stuck in the minds of buyers. In fact, the activity norm is 7-15 thousand steps per day.
