There was a moment in Farcaster history where it was the scenius understanding that spammers had no place on here and everyone was very happy with the community being small and aligned.

Everyone agreed on Dan slowly inviting people one by one. People loved to see themselves as being invited by Dan.

Great thread. A valid parallel between Kiwi and FC.

Going permissionless was an imp step in Farcaster’s growth. As users, we all enjoyed the small and quality-driven community Dan had created. But that enforced a glass ceiling on the network - one that every other social network is constrained by as well.

The innovation FC needs to bring is how to scale with quality. All old methods grossly hamper discovery. I put my money on decentralization helping with this. With priority mode, channel mods and exclusive channels for low value behaviour, it’s a fair start imo.

Maybe it’s because I’m just back from the gym, but I kinda see this as bulking then cutting. Going permissionless was the necessary bulking we had to get into. We’ll figure the right cutting tools to get the aesthetics we deserve. 💪🧠

Enforcing censorship or denying access to a network is never the way to go because it will corrupt motives sooner or later. Dan can be a great leader precisely if he does not become a dictator (see Musk).
