I struggle with his "2. reactive" One of my deeply-held beliefs for consumer products is that you should brand around a positive, rather than a negative. I.e. here's why FC is fun/cool/valuable vs. use FC because of all that can go wrong elsewhere.

Strong agree. While privacy and doom can get you the scared users, the users who truly blossom your network are those who come fearlessly for freedom.
