Is it illegal to give away money to followers?

What if I said I would give 1 ETH to a randomly chosen follower this Friday? 

Screw it, let's do it. I'm gonna give someone 1 ETH on Friday.

Am I allowed to keep it? Maybe I'll save this 1 ETH as a wedding gift for my son. He's 7 years old now.  
If he gets married at 30, that's 23 years from now—this 1 ETH would make a pretty meaningful wedding gift by then xD.
