We're proposing reducing the protocol fee from $3 to $2 as part of the Storage Extension FIP this week. 

The plan was to do this later, but it turns out it will be a lot easier to implement them together.

You owe it to yourselves to read this FIP and the Storage Extension FIP. 

imo being an open protocol makes adjustments like this tricky to do, but Varun and the protocol team continue to be reasonable in how they approach this.
