The old warehouse was gloomy, strewn with discarded crates and smoldering remnants of past experiments. In the middle of the chaos, a woman stood with her feet planted firmly, one hand gripping a charred firebrand. Wisps of smoke curled around her fierce features, her red hair seeming to glow with the faint embers that still flickered in the corners.
“You took forever,” she growled, not deigning to turn around.
“I wasn’t sure I was welcome,” Kai said, edging nervously into the warehouse. Her eyes snapped towards him then—bright, fierce, and impossible to ignore. She hefted the firebrand in her hand with a slight whoosh of air and took a step forward.
“If you’re here to follow my path,” she said, her voice booming, “you’d better have the guts to face the flames.” 0 reply
