one massive change in edm culture since, well I can speak for the 90s, is that I can listen to a bedroom DJ on youtube or twitch who has less than 1K followers but spins absolute banger sets. EDM was always better about not having gate-keepers but access to the music was so hard and for a couple of decades it really required going to a rave/club.
