I watched Twisters on the plane (as a movie super forgettable) but got me thinking again: why on earth are we building the most delicate structures (wood construction) in all these tornado-sensitive areas? A quick ChatGPT question yields the obvious, i.e. that steel-reinforced concrete is the way to go.

I struggle to understand how is it even allowed on the building code. E.g. Greece is very earthquake prone, the building code mirrors this.
