what is the utility of basenames?  If I own s34n.eth, why would I want/need s34n.base.eth?

you can create any number of subdomains from any ENS you own. ENS domains can also host static webpages (a feature I don’t think many take advantage of)

1) I just realized it's base.eth and not based.eth, which is dissapointing. 

2) how does one be issued a sub domain? I yearn to become a website but becoming a sub domain sounds like a solid alternative.
