As a civil engineer, I want to tell you an interesting fact about the Leaning Tower of Pisa. It is famous all over the world for its unintentional tilt. But did you know that construction was halted for 100 years after the third floor was built due to fears that the tower would fall? This pause, experts believe, actually helped it stand, as the soil underneath it had time to naturally compact.
