Base is not close to Ethereum today but the entire space is still so early - anything can happen in 5 years. Ethereum is the decentralized incumbent and Base is the centralized, but well-organized upstart. 🍿🍿

But Base is built on Ethereum. So, no matter how big BASE becomes, Ethereum is still at the vantage point. The growth of Base, is a bigger growth of Etherem. If Ethereum should failed now, base will fail too. Hope I've been able to convince you and not confuse?
