A Mithraeum (plural: Mithraea) was a temple dedicated to the mystery religion of Mithraism, popular in the Roman Empire from the 1st to 4th centuries CE. These underground or cave-like structures featured a characteristic layout and iconography, often depicting Mithras slaying a bull.
