A lot of these “let’s just get back to normal” takes would seem extremely tone deaf to the average American. 

The “status quo” was not a sustainable path for them. They felt like things were this way before Trump started saying it. 

So saying “let’s just calm down” will sound to them like “this mugging will go a lot smoother if you give me your wallet and don’t fight back”

“Calming down” in this case is much more correlated with improving mental health of the PMC than it is with the concerns of the average American being appropriately addressed
