People talk a lot about secularization of Christianity that then influences everything around us without us realizing. But apocalypse isn’t one of them. These Christian end of world panics happened all the time, a big one every 100-200 years. I think we still retain that mentality without the religious aspect of it

We recognize how Christianity created liberalism, the enlightenment, progressivism, libertarianism, human rights, etc. But there’s a huge Christian thing that people used to do, we still do it, and we don’t think it was Christian influenced? The counterpoint is that eastern religions, Aztecs, etc have this cyclical mentality built in. Maybe in the west the Christian influence raises the stakes for us and we’re not just existential about our own lives but about society and the world at large
