You could say that this is because the Reconquista at the time didn’t necessarily have Christianity vs Islam at the heart of it, but the average person today making judgments on each doesn’t know that

The mainstream conception of the Reconquista as a weird quirk of history but the Crusades as Bad Europeans Doing a Colonization™️ is really just a recency bias of identifying the Middle East with Islam and Spain with Christianity
