Is Farcaster too Base-centric? A common piece of feedback is "Farcaster is only for people in the Base ecosystem." Fair / accurate parts of this criticism: most onchain activity for Farcaster users is on Base, there are 3x as many connected Ethereum addresses as Solana addresses on the protocol, Warpcast's wallet does not support Solana. We also do our USDC pay outs on Base. Misconceptions: Farcaster, the protocol, is 99% offchain—we use a blockchain-like system called Snapchain (previously Hubs)—and the part that is onchain is on OP Mainnet (still part of the Superchain). We support a bunch of other chains via mini apps (frames) and Warpcast wallet: Arbitrum, Polygon, Gnosis, Degen, Zora, Unichain. The reality is Farcaster users index on 1) Ethereum and 2) apps. Why is Warpcast so mobile-centric? Common complaints 1. I can't sign up on web 2. Sometimes when I use a frame on web, I have to take out my phone 3. This feature isn't available on web Here's why 1. 80% of Warpcast usage is mobile (see below) 2. Since 2015 or so, all successful, at-scale social products have been mobile first. Even pre-existing desktop networks like Facebook and Twitter pivoted hard into mobile. It's where consumers spend time. 3. While it's likely true that crypto products tend to be desktop-heavy, I would suspect that cryptonatives still spend more leisure time, i.e. time we are competing against Meta, X, YouTube, Netflix for, on mobile. 4. Mobile products have significantly better retention—app installed on a device, ability to send push notifications, deeplinks when a URL gets shared in a external messaging app. 5. Finally, security. Farcaster uses an app-specific Ethereum wallet for identity. There's no good way to do this on web right now. We are bearish on browser extensions.

It’s a state-level NIMBY and red tape problem. Ezra Klein, Matty Iglesias and Noah Smith all write about this. Requires political will and use of eminent domain. Eisenhower built the highway system—while fighting Korean War. Authoritarianism is a useful form of government if you want to build train tracks and not have local input.
