All color palettes are entirely generative, selected as a base of 2-7 colors which are then assigned to individual grid locations. Piezo is a journey to reach out of comfort zones: to use randomness in selecting a base of colors that either contrast or complement each other.

The structure is built from a simple recursive grid but instead, mirroring each grid block on the x-axis to the left (doubling its width). Through this, grid blocks overlap each other and start to interact together through palette blending of each individual grid block.

Each output in Piezo is composed of lines that receive a spray-like grain that’s based on the size and density specified in each grid block: motivated by how colors bleed through each other when using a light density layer of paint from a spray-can.

I've spent countless hours watching the printer draw his work line-by-line, constantly resisting the urge to pull the paper and change the spacing between each line drawn. Piezo is inspired by this urge: what if we draw line-by-line, but change the spacing between each line? 👇

👀 @deca gallery favorite from the personal archive: G A R A B A T O S by artist @rudxane, I could actually pick any of the galleries the artist created for his collected works ("Vault" even won MVG – Most Valuable Galleries) or his own brilliant projects. All are exceptionally well-designed and a pleasure to view (the beautiful artworks do help support the overall reception as well 😅). After Deca switched to their ingenious automated system, these artist-made project 'presentations' became less common. Still, it is so interesting to see how an artist showcases their own project, which outputs they pick and how they describe and organise traits and concepts.
