The oldest sunglasses: Invit's "Ice Sunglasses" The oldest example of glasses being used to protect the eyes from the sun is the use of "ice glasses" by the Inuit tribes. These goggles were specially designed to protect the eyes from the glare caused by the reflection of sunlight on ice. These glasses were carved from wood, bone, walrus teeth or caribou antler. They were designed in the form of a strip that fit tightly over the eyes to prevent light from reaching the eyes. Fine slits were made in these glasses, through which the light was limited to reach the eyes. Moreover, coal ash or gunpowder was added to their exterior to further absorb light and provide complete protection from glare. This invention of the Inuit tribes not only shows their ingenuity and necessity, but also how ancient man found practical solutions to secure his life by using natural resources. These glasses can also be seen as an early form of today's modern sunglasses. @renatov.eth
