the people who are saying ai can basically replace software engineers: 1. people who aren’t software engineers 2. software engineers who have only worked on trivial problems 3. charlatans and attention-mongers it’s the self-driving car in about 2010.

but the speed of improvement seems crazy. if you don't get hands dirty now while things are tractable, you'll be at the mercy of charlatans forever

yes yes, agree on this but i think we are rapidly approaching a stall-out in capabilities...a lot of experts agree on this (i'm not an expert, but i haven't seen many convincing arguments for how capabilities can increase beyond inferring against training data)

IDK man, the fact that a reinforcement loop is possible makes Software engineering way more in the cross hairs than most think. We are a while away, yes BUT with self play and unit tests and MASSIVE MASSIVE COMPUTE coming online I think we are still early innings
