My only complaint is that it still requires me to sign in with google, any way that  can be removed or is to core to the flow?

The other major reason is Apple

We want jam approved in the App Store and we fully expect to get it now

So next natural question, when sign in with Ethereum? 😉

There's a few reasons here:

Every time you login with FC, it creates a new signer key. You can have a max of 100 signer keys. 101st signer key will delete the first signer key and all casts/reactions from that key. So we need a user account we can rely on permanently outside of the FC login.... longcast.jam.so/jji8lC
