Ruckers ... give me your best tips and pack recommendations. Is the GoRuck pack actually worth it?

I guess I should ask exactly what you plan on doing, just carrying around 20lbs+ for miles uphill as exercise? Preparing for anything specific?

Just for the exercise. I'd like to work towards something competitive, but I'm just starting out. Currently, I have a hiking carrier for children and carry my 30lb 3 year old around, but she's not always able to come with me. Sounds like I could just get a simple hiking pack with a hip belt.

if you're going to be searching, look for something used and look for a small summit pack with a hip belt for under/at 30lbs. Fill it with bladders from things like camelbaks or a collapsible water bucket (cheap), they're pliable and conform to a tight space. 20l of water is like 45lbs, to help with pack size ideas.
