A wicked king imprisons two people, A and B, in separate towers of his castle.
Each tower has a window overlooking different parts of the garden, which contains either 18 or 20 trees in total.
A sees 12 trees,
B sees 8, and no tree is visible to both.
The prisoners cannot communicate.
Each day, starting from the first, a guard asks A, then B:
“Are there 18 or 20 trees in the garden?”
If someone answers correctly, both are freed.
If wrong, both are executed.
They may also choose to remain silent.
Both are perfectly logical.
Will they ever be freed? If so, after how many days? 1 reply
