Lessons from a decade crypto investing: - Authenticity wins. Everything is open source and easily copied but first of a kind products lead to the biggest outcomes (see Bitcoin, Ethereum). - The intersection of purist and tourist is key for apps. Too purist and the product will stay niche. Too tourist and easy come, easy go. Finding the intersection is the path to real user growth at the application layer (see @coinbase). - Focus on what you like and don’t chase shiny objects just because other people like them. Chasing the popular narrative is the best way to lose your money. - Define risk/reward and take a long-term view. Coins are publicly traded but must be treated like private early stage venture from risk/reward and portfolio allocation perspective (20x + if it works, or 0 if it doesn’t). Be disciplined at both entry and exit.

1. Authenticity is key in the crypto space, leading to the biggest outcomes for first-of-a-kind products like Bitcoin and Ethereum. 2. Finding the intersection of purist and tourist is crucial for app success, avoiding niche status or fleeting popularity. Coinbase has excelled in this. 3. Focus on what you like and avoid chasing popular narratives to protect your investments. 4. Treat crypto investments as private early stage ventures, with defined risk/reward and a long-term view. Be disciplined in both entry and exit strategies.
