But I don't understand who the customer is?

If you are worried about inflation, there are plenty of inflation-resistant assets you can buy, the most obvious of which is TIPS

My rough intuition is that ~75-85% of the people in the world *want* USD

Isn't part of the idea that tons of people don't have easy access to US markets, thus buying TIPS isn't an option? So the next best thing is holding USD, which more & more ppl are doing via stables. So if they're onchain anyway, wouldn't flatcoin be better (if liquid, accepted, etc)?

i think stables will be giving risk free rate back to users in the not too distant future
