1/ What is Hyperlane? Hyperlane is an open, permissionless interoperability protocol designed to connect blockchains. Think of it as a highway linking isolated blockchain "islands" (Layer 1s, rollups, app-chains) so they can communicate, share data, and move assets seamlessly. 2/ Why does it matter? Blockchains don’t naturally talk to each other. Hyperlane solves this by letting developers build interchain apps—like token bridges or cross-chain DeFi—without needing approval from a central authority. It’s a big deal in a world where new chains pop up daily. 3/ How does it work? It uses "mailboxes" (smart contracts) on each chain to send and receive messages. Relayers move these messages, and validators ensure security. Developers can customize security with Interchain Security Modules (ISMs) to fit their needs—modular and flexible.

4/ Key Features Permissionless: Anyone can deploy it to any chain. Warp Routes: Fast, no-slippage token bridging. Interchain Accounts: Control actions on one chain from another. Broad Support: Works with 140+ chains and multiple VMs (EVM, Solana’s SVM, CosmWasm). 5/ The Vision Hyperlane calls it the "Interchain Highway." The goal? A future where all blockchains are so connected it feels like one ecosystem. With $18.5M raised in 2022 from Variant, Galaxy, and others, they’re betting big on this modular, interchain future. 6/ Why now? Modular blockchains (like Celestia rollups) are exploding. Hyperlane makes them interoperable out of the box. As of April 4, 2025, it’s already live on chains like Soneium and has moved nearly $5B in assets—momentum is building.
