South Korea is home to one of the world’s largest cryptocurrency markets. In the first quarter of 2024, the South Korean won surpassed the US dollar as the most-traded fiat for crypto transactions. That comes with a high price as the country faces numerous frauds and scams, prompting some victims to take extreme actions. On Aug. 28, Hyungsoo Lee, the CEO of crypto yield platform Haru Invest, was stabbed during a court hearing by a man seated in the gallery. Lee was immediately taken to the hospital for treatment. Lee is on trial for allegedly embezzling $826 million in cryptocurrency from 16,000 Haru users. Witnesses told local reporters that the attacker was a regular attendee at Haru’s court proceedings and is believed to have deposited approximately 100 Bitcoin with the firm.

Crypto traders are feeling excitement over XRP after a massive 35% price gain over the past week — with many speculating if the cryptocurrency is due for a potential breakout. “With XRP making an emergence this week, bullish narratives have erupted,” crypto analysis firm Santiment wrote in a July 16 X post following on from several crypto commentators who shared bullish predictions about XRP on the social media platform. “We might be about to witness one of the most significant breakouts in crypto history,” pseudonymous crypto trader Crypto Michael wrote on X, pointing to a bullish pennant pattern forming on XRP’s price chart over seven years — which appears when the price falls inside a triangle pattern following a strong move upside.

Meanwhile, Arbitrum, which released $95 million in May and $105 million in June, is scheduled to drop another $75 million in tokens for its team, advisers and investors on July 16. The project also released 1.1 billion ARB tokens worth $2.32 billion on March 16. Since the huge unlock, ARB prices have dropped by 63%, from a high of $2.27 on March 8 to $0.82 at the time of writing. Optimism, Sui, Immutable and Starknet, which unlocked millions worth of their native tokens in the last two months, will also unlock similar amounts in July.
