Hellinguer's admonition to all psychotherapists: "No therapist should presume, believing they have a responsibility to protect a family or to help them overcome the trials brought by destiny or anything inherent to that family. The illusion that therapy can change (or improve) the essence of life is precisely the root of much harm, especially pronounced within relational systems. Life has its own ways, encompassing all joys and sorrows."These words are directed towards therapists, psychologists, astrologers, and even patients (ourselves). The essence is to maintain a sense of reverence and to avoid any delusions or fantasies of controlling destiny, or possessing magical powers of transformation. Some people always yearn for a sudden transformation—believing that encountering a certain guru, attending a particular workshop, meeting a good traditional healer, or trying a specific remedy could lead to a drastic change in body and mind within just a few days. This is a kind of infantile fantasy.
