fwiw I enjoy the modafinil posting. gwern’s post is a great resource, he talks about it quite possibly being one of the few free lunches. (cutting sleep need by 2/3, or allowing you to skip a day of sleep).

Yeah, Gwern's post is top-notch.

But I don't think we should use modafinil to sleep less. We should use it if we accidentally don't get enough sleep, or for nootropic purposes even after sleeping well.

interesting take. why also use it for nootropic purposes after sleeping well? my understanding is that you wouldn’t need it if you’ve slept perfectly well

also, that it does make it difficult to sleep (half life of 12-15 hours) so you do have to cycle in order to completely unplug. or have fantastic sleep hygiene
